This time the challenge was not to deal with the bureaucracy of the border patrol or corrupt officers but with a mean food poisoning from the day before in Mancora. I should not have had the fried calamari’s even though they were delicious at the time.
Mancora is famous for three things: Surfing, Partying and Wildlife. My main reason was to watch one of the most beautiful creatures on this blue planet: the playful humpback whale which is famous for its acrobatic jumps off the water. I felt in love with this animal since my time along the coastal highway in Australia. […]
Driving through the Northern Regions of Peru is similar to doomsday scenarios in movies like Mad Max. The landscape is shaped by the endless wide desert at the end of the horizon. Quite a few brave pilgrims carrying crosses to praise Jesus Christ were making their way along the highway while the intense sun was burning […]
Coincidentally, I ended up in a beach town called Huanchaco instead of Trujillo after I was struggling to find an affordable hotel. Since I was already close by to the ocean I decided to follow the coastal highway and surprisingly discovered this surfers paradise.
“It is pitch black. I barely see the asphalt under my wheels and the narrow- and darkness of the tunnel equals a huge weight threatening to put me down on my knees. Like a dark knight, My horn is my sword and I blow it regularly in order to fight any towards me coming vehicles”. […]
After spending the last 5 days non stop on the road I was looking for a break today which lead me to the lake Paron and the pyramid mountain. Again, another 5 hours on dirt roads which was not really a recovery as I would have wished but another amazing adventure and wonder of this earth […]
Another crazy day was waiting for me. Google told me I had a 6 hours road ahead of me and I was planning my day accordingly. The roads until of far were in great condition and almost better than any asphalt in Europe which I still could not truly believe. However, this day was a true challenge […]
Peru deserves the first place in having the worst traffic in South America so far. People drive like insane and NO-ONE would pass the driving license in Europe, I swear!!!!! Someone should tell the Peruvians that besides the horn, the high beam and the throttle, there is also a thing called break. Peruvians always try […]
RPM… Rotations Per Minute… around 4000 exactly! This is where the symphony starts to kick in and where nature, my motorbike and me becomes one! There is nothing else but the road ahead of me, no sorrows or worries. Just the perfect ride along the most incredible sceneries on this planet, the shining sun and […]
OUCH! When I woke up this morning every single part of my body hurt and reminded me that riding a motorbike can also be a sport. 8 hours of riding extremely demanding mountain roads were taking its toll and I wished at this moment to have had a nice hot bath or even better, a […]
Back on the road after a day in Cusco I was heading towards a town called Andahuaylas. The day was just perfect for riding my bike… the sun was shining bright high up in the blue sky and from time to time a white cloud would pass by to say gently hello.
Enjoying the benefits of a large town, I was happy to see Starbucks again and immediately spent almost the whole day in one of their large chairs. It is extremely difficult to find coffee shops in Peru, if not impossible. I always assumed South America would be a heaven for coffee lovers When asking for […]
